This application is broken into several subsidiary applications (.OVD files). You can access any of the subsidiary applications from any other subsidiary application. This was done for flexibility and speed. JOBMENU.OVD (the application you are now in) is the hub of the system, although you would never have to come back to this menu except to exit. Features This application features the use of read only links extensively. This lets you enter a cost code in the job items file and all the information in the cost code file is brought into the job items fields. Yet you can override the values that come from the cost code file if you want to. Another thing to notice is the ability to find the Store button during data entry. Typically, when entering data you want to store the record and then clear the record in order to enter a new record. When you press Enter on the last field, a @FIELDFIND is executed to the Store button. Simply press the spacebar to store and a @FIELDFIND is executed to the Clear button where you can press the spacebar again to clear and begin a new record. Labor Codes This option is for maintenance of labor codes. Labor codes are optionally used in the Cost Code section. This is where you keep your current labor costs. Equipment Codes This is where you add and edit equipment codes. Equipment codes are also optionally used in the Cost Code section to help create cost codes. Cost Codes Cost Codes are used for most jobs. They are the items that go into any estimate. Every cost code can contain labor, equipment, sub-contractors, materials, and other costs. When you go on to enter your job items you will simply enter the cost code and the quantity in order to get the total for that part of the job. This is where you enter a job code for any particular job along with the information related to the company that the estimate is being done for. Job Items This is where you will spend the bulk of your time entering data. This is where you tie job codes with cost codes and different phases of a project. If all your cost codes are set up correctly, you simply need to enter a job code (that you've entered in the jobs maintenance), a cost code (that you have entered in the cost code maintenance), the quantity and the phase. The ability to enter records is very fast. If you would like to give this a try, go to Job Items, click the Clear button and enter a job code of "1" and cost code of "1" to see how it works.
